Question:
Asalamu alaikum,
If I receive what I believe to be haraam money (though not 100 percent sure if its haraam), am I allowed to use it? Ive heard in the hanifi madhab, it is acceptable for someone who is needy, i.e doesnt have to pay zakaat, to use this money?
What if i recieve haraam money from my father? Am I allowed to use it if I dont have to pay zakaat?

Answer:
As-salāmu ‘Alaykum Wa-rahmatullāhi Wa-barakātuh.
In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
In principle if one is unsure but he thinks that the wealth given to him is predominantly halaal then one need not investigate into that person’s wealth and one may utilise that wealth given to him.[1]
However if one is unsure and thinks that the income of that person is predominantly Haraam, then he should abstain from such wealth as such wealth is void of Barakah and blessings. If one utilises Haraam money’s on himself and his family, one would see such harms that would have ripple effects on his livelihood. [2]
We make Dua Allah Ta‘ala grants you Barakah in your sustenance and grant’s you a pure and a Halaal income. Aameen
