wassalam

Answer:

In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-raḥmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

You are referring to the practice of “Jama Bainal Salatain”, which refers to the combining of two Fardh Salaahs in one Salaah time.

“Jama Bainal Salatain” is categorized as follows:

1. Jama Haqeeqi (Actual Combination)

2. Jama Soori (Figurative/Non-Actual Combination)

1. ‘Jama Haqeeqi” refers to the actual combination of two Fardh Salaahs in one Salaah time. For example: Zuhr and Asr Salaahs are performed in Asr time. This is not permissible according to the Hanafi Mazhab. However, according to the other Mazahib, “Jama Haqeeqi” is permissible when travelling.

2. “Jama Soori” refers to the performance of two Salaahs, the first Salaah is performed in the last permissible time of that Salaah and the second Salaah is performed in the beginning time of that Salaah. For example: Zuhr Salaah is performed in the last time and Asr Salaah is performed in the first permissible time of Asr. “Jama Soori” is permissible according to all the Mazahib.

The above two situations of combining Salaah is when one is on Safar (Shar’ee travelling, 48 miles or more).

When one is not travelling, every Salaah must be performed on time.
