What is the period of Nifaas – Childbirth

Question:

I have just given birth to a baby girl, How many days should I wait to be considered clean before I start performing prayers, reading Qura’an etc.

Answer:

As-salāmu ‘Alaykum Wa-rahmatullāhi Wa-barakātuh.
In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Alhamdullilah, we are very happy to hear of your new born baby.

We make Dua, Allah Ta‘ala makes her pious, the coolness of your eyes and saves her from all evils and vices of the world. Aameen

The blood experienced after child blood is referred to as Nifaas in Shariah.
The maximum period of Nifaas is forty days and there is no limit for the minimum period.
During Nifaas, one is excused from offering Salaat, however fasting is not excused. She will have to make Qada of all missed fasts. The rules concerning fasting, Salaat and sexual intercourse during haid (menstruation) are the same for Nifaas. [1]
