Query on “Thana”

Question:

When we recite Subhanaka is it correct to say Subhanak Allahuma or Subhanaka (the last letter in this word is pronounced like in word;fat, Allahuma (the first letter in this word is pronounced like in word Allah) The difference is in the ending of the first word,i dont know what is right. Please answer

And also in Al -Ikhlas is it correct to say Walam Jakun or Walam Jakul ? Which ending is correct-with n or l ?

Answer:

As-salāmu ‘Alaykum Wa-rahmatullāhi Wa-barakātuh.

In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

1. The correct method of reciting Thana is as follows;

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ، وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ، وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ

Subbhânaka l-lâhumma wa bi-hamdika, wa tabâraka smuka wa taâla jadduka, wa lâ ilâha ghayruk.[1]

“How perfect You are O Allah, and I praise You. Blessed be your name, and lofty is Your position and none has the right to be worshipped except You.”

In the words Subbhânaka l-lâhumma , it would be recited with a full mouth as before the word Allah the Kaaf ( كَ ) has a Zabar ( كَ ).[2]

According to the laws of Tajweed, if before the word Allah a Zabar ( َ ) or Pesh ( َُ ) appears then it will be recited with a full mouth.

Examples of Full mouth with a Zabar ;

كَ اللَّهُمَّ

اِنَّ اللهَ[3

قَالَ اللهُ[4

Examples of Full mouth with a Pesh ;

حُدُوْدُ اللهِ[5

يُرِيْدُ اللهِ[6

However if a Zer ( ِ ) appears before the word Allah, it will be recited with an empty mouth.

Examples of Empty Mouth;

بَلِ اللهُ[7

دِيْنِ اللهِ[8

بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ[9

2. The correct method of reciting Surat Al-‘Ikhlāş is as follows;

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ (1) اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ (2) لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ (3) وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ (4

Qul huwa Allahu ahad, Allahu assamad, Lam yalid walam yoolad, Walam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad.[10]

Say (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)): “He is Allah, (the) One. “Allah-us-Samad (The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks). “He begets not, nor was He begotten; “And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him.”

According to the Rasmul Khat (Manner in which the Holy Qura’an is written), the word يَكُنْ لَهُ (Walam yakun lahu) is written, However according to the laws of Tajweed, if after a (نْ) Noon Saakin or or ٍ ً ُ (Tanween), from amongst the letters of Idghaam يرملون )), if (Laam, Raa’ ) appear, then the Noon Saakin or Tanween will be incorporated into Laam or Raa and it will be read without Gunnah.[11]

Hereunder are few examples of this law;

مِّن لَّدُنْهُ[12]
مِّن لَّبَنٍ[13]
