Praying During Menstruation Period

Question:

Assalamu Alaikum,

I have menstruated for 15 days last month (about 4 days blood came 6 days brown came and 5 days yellow came ) then after 12 days my next menstruation came, I heard that we have to pray 15 days within two menstruation .what should I do? Do I have to pray 3 days during my menstruation?

The minimum period of haid is three days and three nights and the maximum period is ten days and ten nights.[1] Blood which flows for less than three days and three nights is not haid but is referred to as Istihaada[2] (flowing of blood out of the normal period).

However if blood flows for more than ten days and ten nights, then all those days beyond ten days will be regarded to be Istihaada [3].

In reference to your question the first ten days will be Haid and the five days which followed with yellow blood would be Istihaada, Hence you would have to perform the missed Saalah of the Istihaada period.[4]

So in total you should have performed Salaah for 17 days and not 15 days.
